Accidentally Dial 9-1-1? Do not hang up! Stay on the line, and let the call-taker know that you do not have an emergency. Once the call is disconnected, the call-taker has no way of knowing if there is an actual emergency. if you hang up, officers WILL be dispatched to your location. |
Non English-Speaking Callers Callers who speak a language other than English, should stay on the line, and the 9-1-1 call-taker will add an interpreter to the call from an outside service. The interpreter will then translate information between the caller and the dispatcher. |
Cell Phones and 9-1-1 When calling to report an emergency issue from a cell phone, be prepared to give your location and call back number in the event the network does not capture that information automatically. This information does not automatically come up when you call from a cell phone. Without this information, help cannot be dispatched to your location. |
